Extracurricular events are regularly scheduled throughout the year; these are free and optional.

All billing is handled by the PPLS through the School of Music office. Welcome Meeting:
There will be a welcome meeting for all new parents Tuesday Sep 1st and again Wednesday Sep 2nd, both at 6 pm in Kimbrough Hall Room 346. I will cover the calendar, billing procedures, practice expectations, and will be available to answer questions.
Make-Up Lessons:
There are no make-up lessons for either illness or school events. If you cannot attend a lesson because of illness or any other reason, please contact your teacher as soon as possible. If your teacher misses a lesson for any reason it will be made up at a time convenient to both parties. There are a number of extracurricular events scheduled during the PPLS year; these events are free to every student, and your teacher may recommend participation in one or more of these if a make-up lesson cannot be arranged in a timely fashion. (Please note: some extracurricular events have a separate enrollment fee).
It is assumed that all of our students in private lessons have signed up for the entire year. We have made that commitment to you. If for any reason you cannot continue lessons, we require a four-week notification. Without such notification it will be the school's policy to charge one month's fees after the abrupt termination of lessons.
Vacations:
The following WSU breaks are observed: November 23-27 (Thanksgiving break), December 21-January 10 (Winter break), March 15-19 (Spring Break). There will be no time off for other holidays or school curriculum days (please see calendar).
Recitals and Extracurricular Activities:
All students involved in private piano lessons are expected to participate in specially scheduled events. These are a vital part each student's development. Please mark the following dates on your calendar:
December 5th, 2:00 pm | Fall Recital |
February 27th, 2:00 pm |
Adjudications Preview Recital |
April 23rd, 6:30 pm |
Valerie Roth Roubos Recital |
Recitals will be held in Kimbrough Concert Hall; adult students will meet on these dates at a separate time.Recital Previews will be conducted by the teacher two weeks prior to the recital to determine the student's performance readiness; individual teachers may conduct the previews during the lesson or separate meeting time, but printed music must be in possession by the preview date. Additional instructional and performance events are scheduled throughout the year, and students are encouraged to participate in as many of these extra curricular events as are recommended by the individual teacher.
Practice Expectations:
Students enrolled in 30-minute lessons are expected to practice a minimum of 20 minutes each day; forty-five minute lessons require a minimum of 45 minutes of practice each day. Students who wish to excel should allow for more practice time. Daily practice will help the student accomplish his/her musical goals, which will lead to greater self-esteem and the enhancement of learning abilities. If you have any questions regarding your student's practice habits, please contact your student's teacher or Michelle Mielke.
Thank you for participating in the WSU Piano Pedagogy Lab School. We look forward to teaching your student and hope you find the experience to be a positive one!
